About this event

Can you hear me now? This workshop will provide you an opportunity to “go deep” by listening to yourself and others. Using the story circle oral tradition, a method used during the Civil Rights movement, you will learn to better manage internalized and interpersonal conflict.

Judy Pryor- Ramirez has 15 years of experience in community engagement, social justice teaching & learning, program design, and organizational change management. She has worked in multiple institutional contexts -- from government and nonprofit to academia -- to build the capacity of individuals as change makers and to increase equity for urban communities. Judy earned an MA in Sociology and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a BA in Communication Studies from George Mason University. She sharpened her leadership skills through Rockwood Leadership Institute’s signature residency program, Art of Leadership and the OpEd Project’s core program, Write to Change the World.

The world is full of vexing challenges.

A warming planet, hunger, mis- and disinformation, all of the -isms that keep people from reaching their full potential, just to name a few.

These challenges require creative solutions, but it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. What can we do? Where do we even start?

At the Athena Center for Leadership, we see leaders as, at their core, problem-solvers — and our role as providing Barnard students a wide range of ways to practice solving problems at all scales, all experience-based and available to students from the day they set foot on our campus.

Athena is home to Barnard students who see opportunities in challenges and seize them to build a better world, together — because these are the leaders we need now.
